Symbolic of the sophisticated French lifestyle, Martell is the oldest of the major Cognac producers. Established in 1715 by the Englishman Jean Martell, Martell quickly expanded its exports to the United Kingdom and Asia, playing a key role in enhancing the reputation of the Cognac region. In 1912, Martell introduced Cordon Bleu, arguably its most famous product, solidifying its prestigious standing. Martell Cognac has been served on the Queen Mary and the Concorde.
Martell was acquired by Pernod-Ricard in 2001 before celebrating its 300th anniversary in 2015. This is an exclusive single cask bottling selected by La Maison du Whisky and Navigate World Whisky, and bottled just for South Africa.
Nose: A rich aroma of dried fruit, with touches of white flower, we can smell acacia honey, the punch of blood orange and some spices, star anise in particular.
Palate: An immediate hit of green pepper, a grape spirit with ebony wood notes, exotic coconut fruit, bergamot, and lots of richness.
Finish: Spices, liquorice stick, heady flower, orange zest and a wonderful long and lengthy finish.
