Following on from its predecessors, a 15 year old single cask from Panama (Navigator 2021), the great Guyana 2002 (Navigator 2022) that received 90 points by Serge Valentin, we continue this eclectic series with two additional single cask bottlings. This year our focus shifts to a big 16 year old single cask from Venezuela bottled at cask strength and this sublime 2014 bottling from Fiji.
Fermented from molasses and distilled in a pot still, this rum from Fiji Islands was aged for two years in an ex-Bourbon cask at the distillery before moving to Europe for an additional six years of aging in an ex-Rum barrel. A unique expression bottled with no adulteration, at 49.6%. A strength we found showcased this rum in its best light.
This edition boasts an ester content of 618.1 gr/hLPA.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Round and empyreumatic. The first nose brings a nice resin and glue touch, along with fruity notes (baked apples) and a hint of exotism. It finishes with cloves and sultanas.
Palate: Spicy and linear. Close to the nose, we get exotic fruits first (banana, coco),followed by peppery notes as well, vanilla and sweet almonds, to finish with star anise and prune.
Finish: Rich and opulent. The start of the finish brings us towards rubber notes. The finish concludes on ginger syrup, ripe banana, copper, bitter chocolate and burnt caramel.
