Other Spirits, Japan / Honshu – Nagano
One of Japan’s signature liqueurs, Umeshu – meaning plum alcohol – is the result of the maceration of the fruit of the Japanese plum tree (ume) in a neutral spirit. A fresh and elegant liqueur, Umeshu is produced from carefully selected white plums, which are then infused in shochu (Sumi Shochu) distilled from Masumi sake lees. The white plums give the liqueur a vivacious tartness, perfectly balanced with its contained sweetness.
