Located in Reaux sur Trèfle in Charente Maritime in the Petite Champagne cru, the Fradon estate spans some 40 hectares. The vineyard is primarily planted with Ugni Blanc, followed by Folle Blanche and Colombard and is very carefully managed. This cognac’s harvest was conducted by hand, fermentation was done using indigenous yeasts and the resulting wine was distilled in a 5 hl Charentais still, on the lees. After spending more than 50 years in a temperate cellar, it was bottled at cask strength. It boasts an ester content of 134.3gr/hlPA. Beautifully retaining its youth and character, this Lot 70 reveals an exceptionally vibrant array of floral and fruity notes.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Refined and heady. Prunes, raisins and beeswax notes immediately make for a very classy aroma palette. Allowed to breathe, the nose develops on rancio flavours, with a bright smell of a great Jurançon wine.
Palate: Clean and lively. The attack invites new fruity notes (vine flower, raspberry) and spicy (Sichuan pepper) flavours. On the mid-palate, blanched almonds and fresh hazelnut energize the preciously woody flavour palette.
Finish: Long and persistent. While evoking liquorice stick, the start of the finish is also nutty, exotic (roasted mango) and spicy (cardamom, menthol). The honeyed after- taste is characterised by beautiful flavours of musk and overripe fruits.
