A new rum arrival from Mauritius and one with a unique style, sugarcane juice rum distilled solely in a large column still. This new entity combines unique know-how and specific fermentation methods, to produce a rum that is tastefully authentic.
The Labourdonnais rum cellar holds several types of barrels allowing the rum to age in old Cognac, Bourbon, Port or American Whisky barrels, as well as new Sauternes and French oak casks. In
this case the rum has been aged for five years in an American oak cask that was previously used to make Ruby Port.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Golden brown with a ruby undertone.
Profile: Deep red fruits.
Nose: Humidity jumps out on the nose, a powerful ABV that is settled by a rather intoxicating sweetness. Enter the ruby port showcasing notes of red fruits, that pink liquorice roll and other wonderful pink candied sweets. Mini musks, dollar sweets, pink jelly beans and even a fizzer, there are very few noses that bring up such childhood nostalgia.
Palate: The mouthfeel is thick and oily, coating the tongue with a large ABV that is completely balanced by its candied sticky sweet profile. Some wood polish and varnish notes come racing in on the entry, finishing with vegetal notes and sugarcane.
Finish: Spicy woodnotes are revealed on the finish, this is after all an American oak barrel. Rather juicy and quite mouth-watering. At its ABV, highly drinkable.
