Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside
The Kinflat distillery was founded in 1810 and began production in 1829. After closing in 1870, it reopened under the name Glenburgie-Glenlivet in 1878. At the end of major renovation work started in 2004, the number of stills was increased from four to six in 2006. This version’s diversely fruity flavour and aroma palette wonderfully recreates the malty yet rustic character of a single malt that provides the primary ingredient for the famous blended Scotch Ballantine’s.
TASTING NOTES
Nose : Full, powerful. At once fruity (pineapple, pear), spicy (clove, ginger), herbal (lucerne, cut hay) and vanilla, the first nose is impressively complex. Allowed to breathe, wildflower fragrances (dandelion, daisy) bring lots of freshness to the now more medicinal aroma palette (ointment).
Appearance : Gold supported.
Palate : Lively, elegant. The very fruity (banana, Mirabelle plum), menthol and lemony attack is extremely energetic. The syrupy mid-palate is marked by notes of very sweet white grapes. The impressively long palate becomes increasingly herbal (thyme, oregano) and spicy (saffron).
Overall : Invigorating and rich. At the start of the finish, a pleasant malty bitterness accompanies flavours of liquorice and ripe fruit (white currant, Louise Bonne pear). In the after-taste, notes of tobacco, candied lemon and vanilla appear together in perfect harmony.
