George Smith built his distillery close to Josie’s Well, a natural spring that bubbles out of the dark earth. Winter snow and rain travels through mineral-rich layers of limestone and granite, and this spring water lends a unique character to The Glenlivet’s single malt. Flavours associated with The Glenlivet Scotch are estery, fruity and floral, with a rich and elegant profile – notes that have become synonymous with Speyside’s regional character.
Tasting Notes
Colour : Gold
Nose: Fresh, dairy, cereal, leading to fresh pastries. Exotic fruits, lemon, candied citrus, nutmeg, grated coconut and a hint of milk chocolate.
Palate: Lively and spicy (chilli pepper, green pepper),the palate is ever–changing with herbaceous notes and liquorice. The cereal and dairy side becomes more discreet, but notes of vanilla bean manage to emerge to give more roundness.
Finish: Long, spicy (green pepper) and perfectly dry.

Rare as rocking-horse manure! Are you serious? A single cask, cask strength, official bottling of Glenlivet, and selected by La Maison du Whisky? Never seen before in SA, and probably not for decades anywhere. What a treat. Baked fruit tart, signature florals, hint of marzipan. Nothing pulls it down, poised an perfect, and surely the best speysider I have had. Oh ya, its 25 yrs old too.
