The Sanchez distillery is a small family business established for more than 150 years in Candelaria Yegol, a small village in the state of Tahona. Maestro mezcaleros Sanchez have passed from father to son for four generations. Smaller and larger in diameter than the Cuishe agave, the Madre Cuishe (mother Cuishe) takes its name from a tradition of planting these agaves around the fields of Espadin to protect them, as a mother would protect her children. It is generally found in higher areas and with a more moderate climate than the Cuishe.
