When Chichibu unveiled The First Ten in 2020, its oldest official bottling to date, it marked a pivotal moment in the history of Japanese whisky — a milestone achievement born of relentless dedication, and something few could have imagined just a few decades earlier. Today, it’s no longer The First Ten that Chichibu presents to us, but Chichibu Aged 10 Years — a powerful signal that this artisanal distillery is now firmly established and has built up a comfortable stock of aged whisky. This new expression also reflects a shift toward a more refined and modern label design, now bearing the signature: “The Artisan Distillery Est. 2008.“Matured predominantly in bourbon casks, it reveals vibrant aromas of yellow fruits, balanced by a tangy touch of red berries, giving the whisky a subtle aromatic evolution as the tasting progresses.

Nose : From the first pour, the nose reveals a generous and seductive sweetness, with notes of creamy honey and melted vanilla candy, reminiscent of fine artisanal confectionery. In the background, a fresh and slightly exotic fruitiness emerges — Japanese loquat, ripe pineapple, and pink grapefruit. A fleeting hint of smoke, nearly imperceptible, adds depth and complexity without overpowering, acting like a subtle watermark.

Palate : The attack is bright, vibrant yet controlled, unveiling a rich and indulgent fruit palette: candied orange peel, tart red currants, and juicy wild strawberries, wrapped in a creamy texture evocative of frozen yogurt. The yellow peach brings roundness and pulpy mouthfeel, while a touch of light cream smooths out the structure, lending elegance without weight.

Finish : Long, persistent, and well-structured, the finish shows a beautiful progression. The grapefruit zest returns in a more bitter and assertive form, joined by warm malty undertones and lingering notes of yellow peach and caramelized pineapple. A hint of white pepper surfaces at the very end, accompanied by an elegant bitterness reminiscent of citrus peel, leaving a fresh and harmonious impression.
