Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands
All the ingredients that allow Ardmore to hold a special place in the heart of whisky lovers can be found in this vintage, namely: on one side, a smoke and peat that punctuate the tasting session and on the other, a number of fruits, heady flowers, refreshing aromatic plants and strong spices that bring plenty of nuances to its range of flavors and aromas. Add to that a natural ability to constantly gain in elegance as so exquisitely displayed in the astoundingly fine, full and deep finish.
Profile: complex, the initial nose is smoky before becoming fruity and mostly peaty. Airing enhances the salty and pleasant character. With liveliness, the palate is medicinal and peppery as well as smoky and peaty. A bouquet of fresh fruits (white grape) on the finish.
TASTING NOTE
Nose: Fine, complex. Behind a first smoky note, the initial nose reveals notes of coconut, candied lemon, pineapple and above all a superbly elegant liquorice and herbaceous peat. Upon airing, it becomes more saline, roasted (tobacco) and balsamic (eucalyptus). A range of aromas exuding a pleasant feeling of profound serenity.
Palate: Lively, full-bodied. In contrast, the attack is extremely firm. The smoke and peat, now closely interwoven, create a medicinal and peppery character in the mid-palate. Even if hints of ripe fruits (grape, peach, plum), vanilla and dried fruits (walnut, almond) are present, the finish is decidedly saline.
Overall: Long, balanced. Delicately honey-like, with notes of flowers (lily of the valley) and aromatic plants (sage), then becoming crisper. The palate is flooded with the sweet juices of Chasselas grapes. With the same refinement, a soft liquorice and creamy note arrives on the finish. The retro-nasal olfaction highlights delightful malty and peaty tones.
