Blended Whisky, Japan
The third release in the “Discovery” collection launched in 2021 in the run-up to Nikka Whisky’s 90th anniversary. This version is created from a blend of grain whiskies produced at the Miyagikyo, Nishinomiya (where production ceased in 1998), Moji and Satsuma Tsukasa distilleries. With a subtle combination of freshness and maturity, Nikka The Grain also reveals incredible balance throughout the tasting. This deep harmony is best-owed by the flawless symbiosis of the individual components.
Nose : Fresh, complex. On the first nose, beeswax smoothly interlaces with aromatic plants (verbena, chamomile) and fresh fruits (pineapple, mirabelle). The nose then opens up on vanilla, delicately roasted and more heady grain aromas.
Appearance : Gold plated.
Palate : Rich yet slender. The creamy (almond milk and coconut) and vanilla attack is also full of energy. The slender mid-palate shows delicate liquorice, before finishing on soft spices (cinnamon, ginger).
Overall : Well-balanced, creamy. In continuation of the palate, the finish also returns to the notes of grains and aromatic plants from the first nose. The delicious after-taste wavers between mint, acacia honey and heady floral flavors (broom, mimosa).
