Single Malt Whisky, Japan
Created in 2008, the Japanese single malt whiskey Chichibu is already well known to lovers of Japanese whiskeys, but also to whiskey connoisseurs in general. Produced 100% in its distillery, and soon for certain cuvées from local barley and peat and even from Japanese oak, Chichibu is on its way to becoming the very first 100% Japanese whiskey, thanks to the efforts of its creator, Ichiro Akuto. Fermented in mizunara vats (a variety of Japanese oak very popular for whiskey) and distilled in small stills, the liquid collected surprises with its maturity and complexity, even at a very young age. A true artisan whisky.
Assembled by Ichiro Akuto, the fifth edition of Chichibu Paris Edition is a small batch mostly aged in bourbon casks, of which a portion of peated malts. The bottles of this limited series are dressed lithographs of Thirty-six Views of the Eiffel Tower, an artist’s book published in 1902 by Henri Rivière (1864-1951). Figure of Art Nouveau, this Parisian illustrator and engraver, fascinated by Japanese engravings, is inspired by a famous work by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849): The Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.
