Single Malt Whisky, Taiwan / Yilan County, 70cl, Ref: 59713.
Revealing a medicinal, chocolate, spicy, floral and even gamey peat, this version constantly moves between Bowmore and Laphroaig. The similarities with these two iconic Islay distilleries of course suits it well. But we mustn’t forget the generosity, refreshing expression and strength of character of the spirit, which is authentic and proud of its roots.
Tasting Notes
Nose
On the first nose, a herbaceous (lichen, seaweed), slightly smoky and medicinal (clove, camphor) peat takes over. Allowed to breathe, the peat further marks its territory.
Palate
Clean, lively. Just as present on the attack, peat sits at the heart of the flavor palette, like a volcano down the slopes of which tumble orange zest, apricot and mango. Next, a handful of mustard seeds, rancio that brings cherries in brandy.
Overall
Long, serene. At the start of the finish, salted butter caramel and nuts (cashew, hazelnut) provide a very nuanced riposte to a now more rooty (gentian, ginseng). The empty glass is peaty, smoky, medicinal and heady (thuja, elder wood).
