Single Malt Whisky, Scotland/Islay
Named “Exploration”, this latest addition to the Foundations Collection has been aged in a cask that has first been scraped, toasted and then burned (STR). This Single Cask perfectly embodies the spirit of adventure and entrepreneurial daring that has animated the distillery since its creation. This whisky reflects Kilchoman’s unwavering commitment to pushing back the boundaries of taste and character exploration. “Exploration” symbolizes Kilchoman’s creative freedom and constant quest for innovation, while remaining true to the artisanal roots and exceptional quality for which the distillery is renowned. Particularly spicy, the aromatic palette of this whisky is a succession of toasty, caramelized and chocolaty sequences, each more delicious than the last.
Nose : Frank, generous. First, a pleasant salinity precedes spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove), animal (leather) and infused (smoky black tea) aromas. Floral (lavender), the aromatic palette evolves towards more woody (cedar, sandalwood) and medicinal (biafine) registers, giving it great energy.
Palate : Smooth and precise. Flavors of caramel and melted butter form a voluptuous first taste sequence. Then, notes of smoke lead us to a fireplace where chestnuts are roasting. Warm, it is gradually refreshed by notes of blood orange and mochi.
Overall : Elegant, serene. Tenderly chocolatey, the opening of the finish is also aniseed and fruity (clementine). Then, intense smoke permeates the ambient atmosphere. Over time, the aftertaste evolves towards more animal (prime rib) and vegetal (burning cigar) tones.
