Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Islay
This extremely mineral version selected from the famous London bottler Berry Brothers & Rudd is a subtle combination of youthful freshness and accomplished maturity. Like the finest Bowmores, it reveals a very nuanced peat that is always present but never invasive. This affords an intense charm to a palette of flavors and aromas whose lyrical love affair with freedom borders on the poetic.
TASTING NOTE
Appearance : Bright gold.
Nose : Complex, refined. With white fruits (lilac, lily of the valley), candied lemon, juicy apple, vanilla, musk, a hint of exoticism (pineapple), green liquorice, walnut, a peat that sits between land and sea, seaweed, seafood, chalk, coal, smoke that solidifies into soot, wax, a crackling fire, coriander and fennel, Bowmore stamps its name in black letters across the distillery’s white walls.
Palate : Balanced, noble. The impressive attack is very much in keeping with the nose in terms of its complexity and sophistication as well as the way peat slips into every fruity, vanilla, floral, milky, spicy, herbaceous, iodine and salty note in the flavor palette. The end of the palate reveals a bouquet of white flowers that release enchanting fragrances.
Overall : Long, rich. At the start of the finish, a liquorice, vegetal (silt, reed) and more oily than salty peat delicately envelops the taste buds. In its wake come the candied lemon, Williams pear, vanilla and coriander from the first nose. The circle is complete. The retro-nasal olfaction and empty glass release aromas of fermentation and spirit as it runs through the spirit still.
