Rum, Jamaica
This rum is stamped HJF, one of the distillery’s old marks that potentially stands for Hampden John Fitzgerald. This “forgotten” mark from Hampden corresponds to an ester content equivalent to today’s HLCF (Hampden Light Continental Flavoured), standing at 500-700 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. From the nose to the palate, this version always begins by emphasizing its strength of character and extraordinary mineral power. Then, continually becoming more delicate, it reveals exquisitely rich aromas and flavours as the tasting progresses.
TASTING NOTES
Nose : Rich, deep. Oxidative (sherry vinegar) and rancio (apricot, ripe mango), floral (hyacinth, carnation) and vegetal (sugar cane, cut hay), the first nose reveals impressive depth. Allowed to breathe, notes of dark chocolate, crème caramel and orange jam interlace elegantly.
Appearance : Orange Copper.
Palate : Lively, dynamic. Volcanic and tumultuous, the attack is hot (Espelette pepper), camphoric, fruity (strawberry, guava, apricot) and caramelized. The delicate mid-palate evokes the velvety feel of peach skin. The aroma palette becomes increasingly mouth-watering.
Overall : Long, rich. The start of the finish reveals rum baba, apricot tart and chocolate éclair. The after-taste is characterized by notes of dried fruit (date, fig), geranium honey, marmalade and apricot jam.
